Écologie : (répartition d'après la flore) Bois, haies, décombres, cà et là dans presque toute la France et en Corse.
Répartition hors de France : Europe centrale et méridionale ; Asie occidentale, jusqu'en Perse ; Afrique septentrionale.

The deadly nightshade is a glabrous or pubescent and glandular perennial with stout, branched stems 40-50 cm high, growing annually from a very thick, branched stock.
Ecology UK: (distribution according to flora) It occurs in woods, thickets and in clefts on cliffs on stony chalk and basic soils throughout England and Wales, but not commonly.

Flowers: 25 mm long, 12 mm diam., axillary, solitary, on long peduncles, drooping; calyx spreading, lobes long, acute, veined; corolla lurid purple, campanulate, with triangular, recurved teeth; stamens included, filaments hairy at base.
